Science: The Solar System

The Solar System is made up of the stars, planets and the satellites. There are nine planets.

Let's talk about the inner plantes first.
Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun. It will take about 88 days to make one orbit around the Sun. During daytime, it's maximum temperature is 427 degrees and can reach up to -183 during the night.It's distance from the Sun is 58 million kiometres. Venus, the next closest plant to the Sun is extremely hot, up to the maximum temperature of about 480 degrees. It's atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide. It is 108 million kilometers from the Sun. Earth is the only planet where life exists. It is just at the right spot so Earth is just right for life to exist. So, 78% of air is made up of nitrogen, 21% of air is made up of oxygen and 1% is made of other gases. It takes 365 days to make one orbit around the Sun and takes about a day to rotate once. It is 150 million kilometers from the Sun. Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun, which orbits around the Sun for 687 days. It's distance from the Sun is 228 million kilometers. It's size is half of Earth's.

Between the inner planets is the asteroid belt.

Now let's talk about the outer planets. Jupiter, the largest planet in the universe, measuring 142 984 km at its equator. Jupiter takes 11.9 Earth years to orbit around the Earth once. Jupiter has more than 10 moons. The red storm spot is included in Jupiter. Saturn was the second largest planet which is 9 times wider than Earth. It measures 120 536km around its equator. It takes about 29.5 Earth years around the Sun, at a distance of 1429 million kilometers. Saturn can also be called the ringed planet because of its rings. It has 31 moons. Uranus is a stange plant that is tilted sideways and orbits around the Sun once in 84 years. The distance from the Sun is 2870 km. Uranus have 15 moons. Neptune is a planet which is the second furthest from the Sun. Its gas gave Neptune its blue appearence and takes about 165 years to orbit around the Sun and its distance is about 4504 million kilometers. It has a strange moon, Triton that orbits Neptune in a clockwise direction. The last planet, Pluto, is the smallest planet from the Sun ( Do you know, Pluto is no longer considered a planet now? ). It has one moon, Charon. Pluto takes 248 years to orbit around the Sun. Pluto has a strange orbit. Sometimes, it will cut through Neptune's orbit.

Behind Pluto is the Kuiper Belt. The oort cloud is even farther away.

The Sun is at the centre of the Solar System. It's core, which is 15 million degrees is the hottest part of the Sun. The surface of the Sun have the Sunspots, faculae, solar flares and the prominences.

Other things in the universe include the Milky Way and the stars.
